The positions of letters corresponds to the numerical positioning of a specified arabic letter within a word, verse, or portion of a verse. For example, in the first verse of the Quran - "bismillah al-rahman al-raheem," translated as "In the name of ALLAH, Most Gracious, Most Merciful"
The positions of the letter "aleef" are in positions 4, 8, and 14, while the positions of the arabic letter "lam" are 5, 6, 9, and 15. There are 19 letters in the entire verse. One should keep in mind that arabic is written and read right to left.
